Risk Awareness and Avoidance
Speaker: Bob Harris, CAE
 "Nobody ever told me," is a bad way to find out about potential risks. The board of directors, committees and staff need to be aware of risks in an association. From public record requests to the misguided authority of a committee or volunteer, the session will describe the most common risks and how to avoid them, including real examples of risks and mitigation.

Many strategic plans fail at the start. Too many people, too much time for the retreat, overly frequent planning (not annually), and a plan left to collect dust on the shelf. Every association needs a strategic plan to guide successive boards, empower the staff, and communicate value to the community. From the planning retreat to successful implementation - the session will offer guidance and models of excellence.

The snooze button - it's a blessing and a curse, and it exists on more than just our alarm clocks and phones. It exists in everyday life. While it feels cozy and harmless to stay comfortable for just a few more minutes, it can actually hold us back from greater success. In this program, Courtney opens your eyes to three things association leaders and staff often "snooze on" and shows you how to address them head on. You'll leave OSAE knowing what to prioritize for a more successful, and less stressful, 2023-2024!
