Navigating Workplace Rapids
Speaker: Greg Hawks

This message draws parallels from white water rafting and the workplace. There are so many similarities it’s almost ridiculous. Do you know what causes rapids to happen in the river? Just 3 things:

  • Pressure – Ever experienced pressure at work? How do you navigate it successfully?

  • Obstacles – The question is not do you face obstacles, but how many per day do you encounter? In this message the challenge is presented to love obstacles. Certainly a different thought, but once you see why, you too may utter “I love obstacles”…

  • Terrain Change – When the bottom drops out and drastic changes occur, how do you remain in the raft? It’s treacherous and scary.

How a guide provides leadership is extremely different than how most do. He sits in the back of the raft, not the front. He offers no forward motion. He communicates succinctly. Leaders who model themselves like a guide, empower their teams to succeed even in the most challenging of circumstances.

It is preposterous how much relevant content this message packs!

Trust Evolution
Speaker: Greg Hawks

Of the handful of foundational relational necessities, trust seems to be eroding most swiftly and evidently in the workplace. It truly seems to be devolving into a scarce resource. The way Hawks Agency shorthands whether you have a high trust culture or low trust culture is by answering this question: How many meetings do you have AFTER a team meeting? If two gather in an office and discuss what was or wasn’t said in the meeting… if an email is sent to a colleague that says “can you believe what she said?!”… if a quick text is sent inside the meeting to a peer with a snarky remark about someone else in the meeting… The more of this that transpires, the lower trust exists in your world.

However, if robust dialog, adamant disagreement, direct criticism and questioning decision making happens out in the open, in the actual meeting a high trust culture is evident. Nurturing this environment takes a significant level of commitment!

  • When trust exists shared vulnerability is a reality.
  • When trust exists assuming the best is possible.
  • When trust exists “it’s not personal” is true.
  • When trust exists candid conversations happen regularly.
  • When trust exists achieving excellence is possible.

This is really one of the most critical issues leaders need to deal with in the workplace. Low trust is sabotaging vision, strategies, productivity and a spirit of ownership.
